A Family Visit To The Louvre Exhibit At The High Museum in Atlanta
Yesterday, my wife Carole and I took my daughters Kayla (age 10) and Cassie (age 8 ) to see the exhibit from the famous French museum the Louvre. The exhibit was hosted at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta.
I wish that I could claim more depth of knowledge about art that I can. Alas, I am one of the poor (pragmatic?) souls who stares at modern art with thoughts like “colors like that appear only on exit and not on entry” or “so THAT is what a horse looks like when it’s left in the rain”.
However, I thoroughly enjoyed the Egyptian art that was part of the Louvre experiment. Carole mentioned to me that it seems the Egyptians must have had some incredible knowledge that they used in their art and architecture - and unfortunately, some of that knowledge seems to have disappeared in the intervening millenia.
The biggest reason I wanted to is to go to the High Museum was to give my children more exposure to the arts than I have had. I do not feel deprived in any way, yet I do think I’d be a bit better rounded as a person if I had a conversational knowledge of art. Even the art I think is an absolute waste of time and a proof of a complete lack of actual talent.
My oldest daughter Kayla seemed to enjoy walking by the sculptures and other exhibits with brief glances, while my youngest daughter Cassie preferred looking at each piece individually and wanted to listen to each word of the the audio tour. But I learned that the High Museum offers regular events for families, and we’re definitely going to take advantage of that in the future.
I’m so thankful that God has blessed me with Carole, Kayla and Cassie. It was a really great afternoon.
